A Vonage landline is different

Using a Vonage landline as your main landline is an easy and flexible way to cut monthly costs and save money. The difference between how Vonage works and traditional landlines is quite subtle. A traditional landline is physical connection between your house and the landline operator's network whilst your telephone handset is more than likely plugged into a landline phone socket in the wall.

With a Vonage landline, you would simply unplug your phone from that landline socket and plug it into a Vonage adapter which is plugged into your broadband modem or router. Then you're ready to start making cheap landline calls

A mobile landline

Traditionally, a landline is a commitment to a particular house and country. However Vonage is portable meaning your landline (or mobile landline) no longer ties you down to any specific house or country. If you go on holiday to your summer home, you can take Vonage your landline with you. As long as you've got access to broadband, your Vonage adapter and a phone handset, you'll be able to make and receive unlimited1 free landline calls like you were at home. And if you move house you can take your mobile landline with you so you'll never have to worry about informing everyone of your new landline number.

Choice of unlimited call plans

With Vonage, you choose a landline call plan that enables you to make unlimited1 free landline calls, at any time of the day. If you regularly call landlines or mobiles overseas, we also offer a range of low-cost international call plans. Some of these include unlimited1 cheap landline calls as well as unlimited1 mobile calls.

Landline calls made over your cable broadband

Exactly how you integrate a Vonage landline into your existing home set-up will depend on the kind of broadband connection you currently use. If you have a broadband and landline package from a cable provider, your broadband and landline will be independent of each other. This means you can cancel your cable landline yet keep your broadband. The beauty of this is that, once you've set up Vonage as your landline, you can cancel your expensive cable landline rental element of your existing landline service. With Vonage you'll get a new landline number, but you also have the option of keeping your existing number.

Landline calls made over your ADSL broadband

If you've got ADSL broadband, your broadband connection is tied to your landline. You can't cancel your landline rental, because you would lose your broadband connection. But you can still benefit from having a Vonage land line, alongside your original land line. If you treat this Vonage landline as your primary landline, you will be able to make cheap landline calls to the countries within your call plan, and save money simply by using your Vonage landline, instead of your original landline, to make unlimited1 free landline calls within the UK. Or you could treat your new landline as a second phone line or even as a small business phone line.

Either way, you would use your Vonage landline service just like you use your traditional landline at the moment. In practice, nothing changes in terms of the way you make and receive calls to mobiles, landlines and international landline numbers.

Switching landline provider is straightforward

According to Ofcom's Consumer Experience report 2008, over 73% of consumers have never considered switching landline supplier, even though there are significant sayings to be made with a new landline provider. Switching landline is no longer complicated. So no matter what your current landline and broadband set-up, once you start using Vonage as you main landline phone to make unlimited1 and cheap landline calls, you'll quickly notice a reduction in your monthly landline costs.
