Vonage works differently from traditional telephone lines

There is one fundamental difference between Vonage and other more traditional phone lines. And that difference lies in the technology we use. Typically, a phone line is a physical connection between your house and the phone line provider's network. Calls are delivered over the phone line providers' cable or copper networks. Vonage works by delivering and receiving calls over your existing broadband.

If you already have a phone line, your phone is probably plugged into a phone line socket. If you get a Vonage telephone line (or several Vonage telephone lines), you would unplug your phone from that socket and plug it into a Vonage adapter.
