London Tech Week – ‘Disrupting Communication: A Billion-Dollar Story’

Technology & communications

Vonage UK was proud to sponsor London Tech Week this year – a week-long festival of tech and innovation that brings together 55,000 tech enthusiasts from over 90 countries.

With support from Tech London Advocates, the UK’s most influential private-sector led tech network, Vonage hosted ‘Disrupting Communication: A Billion-Dollar Story’ at its European HQ on Bonhill Street.

The breakfast event brought together fast-growth founders and entrepreneurs to explore how technology is transforming the way businesses talk to their customers.

From the rise of AI powered chatbots, to mobile communication apps and voice services, businesses have to be more alert than ever to the new technologies defining good customer service.

With upwards of $1.7 trillion expected to be spent on digital transformation worldwide by 2019 the event asked; what is the next innovation set to redefine business-customer communication? How can businesses prepare for the huge changes set to affect traditional telecommunications and where are the smart investments in telecoms?

Hosted by Michael Hayman MBE, the morning saw a speaker line-up including a keynote speech from serial investor and former Chairman of Cable & Wireless, The Rt. Hon. Lord Young of Graffham.

Guests from across the UK – and venturing from as far as Amsterdam – heard from global tech experts including Julie Alexander, Director of Urban Development, Siemens; James Ski, Founder, Sales Confidence; Luba Reynolds, Managing Director, Sales-Expand,;Dr. Ishani Patel, Co-founder, Lantum; David Vigar, Director of Strategic Carrier Partnerships, Nexmo; and Roger Vigilance, Marketing Director, Vonage UK.

Roger Vigilance, Marketing Director of Vonage UK, opened with an introduction to the Vonage growth story and the innovations behind its success – setting the scene for the dynamic sessions that followed.

AI, big data, digital skills and access to talent were all on the agenda – key themes across events at this year’s London Tech Week.

The conversation continued on social media, with one audience member taking to Twitter to comment: “Most interesting tech breakfast I’ve been to, with fascinating stories by @TheLordYoung on his career and his optimistic view of our future through technology @VonageUK @LDNTechWeek” (Edward Smith, @ecpsmith).
